BY-LAW NO. 2008-15
Being a By -Law to adopt a policy with respect to the application of dust suppressant.
WHEREAS Section 270 of the Municipal Act, 2001 as amended requires municipalities to
adopt and maintain a policy in respect of the application of dust suppressant;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed enacts as
follows:
1. That the Policy for Application of Dust Suppressant attached hereto as Schedule "A"
to this by-law is hereby adopted as the policy for application of dust suppressant.
2. That this by-law shall come into force and take effect immediately upon the passing
thereof by the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed.

POLICY for APPLICATION of
DUST SUPPRESSANT
This Policy for the application of dust suppressant
is issued under the authority of the Council of the
Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed in accordance
with By -Law No. 2008-15 dated May 13, 2008.

APPLICATION OF DUST SUPPRESSANT POLICY
Introduction
Council has identified that the potential of dust nuisance caused by traffic volumes on open
surfaced roads and seeks to reduce this hazard by assisting in the application of a dust
suppressant.
General
The criteria for the application of dust suppressant adjacent to residential properties, farm
buildings, or other residential buildings that are deemed appropriate within a 50 metre radius
from the centre line of the open surface road.
Product Type
An assessment of the best suited dust suppressant for use on open surfaced roads in the
municipality was determined to be calcium -chloride.
Application & Rate of Application
Dust suppressant will be applied at a rate deemed appropriate by the delegated personnel or
suppliers' recommendations.
Consideration will be given to seasonal conditions, existing pavement material and condition,
analysis of traffic volume and suppressant availability. The timing of application will
coincide prior to the summer months and scheduled around other works within the Public
Works Department.
The application will be one single width of approximately 4.6 metres (15 feet).
The length of the application will be100 metres (325 feet) in front of each residence, or
continuous application on roads with high traffic volumes, or where residences are less than
100 metres (325 feet) apart.
An application will be applied to every open surfaced intersections.
Authority
The Public Works Supervisor has the delegated authority to carry out the terms under this
policy and will provide a report to Council outlining roads which have received dust
suppressant.
