HomeMy Public PortalAboutBy-Law 2010-16 Adopt a Violence in Workplace PolicyCORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF TWEED BY-LAW NO. 2010-16 Being a By -Law to adopt a Violence in the Workplace Policy for the Municipality of Tweed. WHEREAS the Municipal Act, 2001 provides the general authority for Councils to adopt policies; O O AND WHEREAS the Occupational Health and Safety Act has been amended by Bill 168 which requires worker protection from violence and harassment in the workplace and which requires employers to prepare written policies with respect to workplace violence and workplace harassment; NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed enacts as follows: 1. That the Policy for Violence in the Workplace attached hereto as Schedule "A" to this by-law is hereby adopted as the policy for addressing violence in the workplace. 2. That this by-law shall come into force and take effect immediately upon the passing thereof by the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed. Read a first and second time this 8th day of June, 2010. Read a third and final time, passed, signed and sealed in open Council this 8th day of June, 2010. 30.4 Violence in the Workplace Policy The Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed is committed to the prevention of workplace violence and is ultimately responsible for worker health & safety. The Municipality of Tweed will take whatever steps are reasonable to protect our workers from workplace violence from all sources. All reports of incidents will be regarded as a serious offence. Violent behavior in the workplace is unacceptable from anyone. This policy applies to all workers, contractors, supervisors, managers and department heads. Everyone is expected to uphold this policy and to work together to prevent workplace violence. A copy of this policy will be posted in the workplace. There is a violence in the workplace procedure that implements this policy. It includes measures and procedures to protect workers from workplace violence, a means of summoning immediate assistance and a process for workers to report incident, or raise concerns. The Municipality of Tweed, as the employer, will ensure that this policy and the supporting program are implemented and maintained and that all workers and supervisors have the appropriate information and instruction to protect them from violence in the workplace. Supervisors will adhere to this policy and the supporting program. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring the measures and procedures are followed by workers and that workers have the information that they need to protect themselves. Every worker must work in compliance with this policy and the supporting program. All workers are encouraged to raise any concerns about workplace violence and the report any violent incidents or threats. Management pledges to investigate and deal with all incidents and complaints of workplace violence in a timely and fair manner, respecting the privacy of all concerned to the extent possible.
