BY-LAW NO. 2016-16
Being a By -Law to adopt a Recognition Policy for the Municipality of Tweed.
WHEREAS the Municipal Act, 2001 provides the general authority for Councils to adopt
policies;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed enacts as
follows:
1. That the Policy for Recognition attached hereto as Schedule "A" to this by-law is
hereby adopted as the employee recognition policy for the Municipality of Tweed.
2. That this By -Law shall come into force and take effect immediately upon the passing
thereof by the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Tweed.
3. That By -Law 2012-31 and By -Law 2013-20 be repealed in their entirety.
Read a first and second time this 22nd day of March, 2016.
Read a third and final time, passed, signed and sealed in open Council this 22nd day of March,
2016.

SCHEDULE A
RECOGNITION POLICY
Intent
The Municipality of Tweed has adopted this policy to ensure that our staff are recognized for
their achievements in an appropriate fashion. The Municipality of Tweed recognizes and values
the efforts and accomplishments of our staff members, and the contributions they make towards
the success of the municipality.
Municipality of Tweed may provide recognition in the following manners:
➢ Verbal or written congratulations and/or thanks;
➢ Awards for excellence and/or achievement; and
➢ Ceremonies for the celebration and communication of excellence and/or achievement.
The Municipality of Tweed will ensure that all recognition provided reflects the staff member or
teams ability to successfully meet or exceed defined corporate objectives, goals and values, and
will ensure that the recognition creates a lasting effect.
Definitions
Organization -Wide Recognition — Annual award (such as Employee, Manager and Volunteer of
the Year) given to individual employees who demonstrate excellence and innovation in
exceeding the objectives of the organization.
Department -Wide Recognition — Formal and informal recognition given at a departmental level
to individual employees or teams for outstanding contributions and accomplishments which best
reflect the Department's mission, vision and values.
Formal Recognition — Organization -wide and/or department -wide recognition that is provided,
following a formal process of nominations and voting/board consideration.
Informal Recognition — Acknowledgment of day-to-day accomplishments in the workplace.
Long Service — Recognition provided for a staff member that has provided the company with a
long history of commitment, dedication and exceptional service, and has been with the
organization for a period of 25 years.
Service Appreciation — Recognition provided to acknowledge the service and efforts of a long
service staff member upon receipt of their intent to resign or retire.

RECOGNITION POLICY
Guidelines
1. The CAO shall be responsible for the coordination of the annual company awards
ceremony.
2. Recognition programs employed for use in the Municipality of Tweed departments must
act in accordance with the Recognition Policy.
3. Each department will be responsible for effectively documenting laudable service
achievements, and communicate these achievements effectively. Where appropriate,
departments will provide recognition, and may submit the information for consideration
for organization wide recognition and/or award(s).
4. The Council will monitor and evaluate the Municipality of Tweed recognition programs
and policy, and revise as appropriate.
Departmental Obligations
➢ Municipality of Tweed departments are encouraged to promote our goals and objectives,
and the recognition programs and strategies.
➢ Departments shall create documentation for all formal recognition activities and provide
feedback to assist in the review and revision of recognition programs.
➢ The Council shall review and revise recognition policies and programs.
Long -Service Intervals
The Municipality of Tweed recognizes and rewards employees that have stayed with the
organization at the following stages of their employment:
➢ 15 Years of Service
➢ 20 Years of Service
➢ 25 Years of Service
➢ Retirement
The Municipality of Tweed recognizes and rewards firefighters that have stayed with the Tweed
Fire Department for 25 Years of Service.

LONG SERVICE AWARDS
The Municipality has adopted a Recognition Policy to ensure that staff are recognized for their
achievements in an appropriate manner.
The Municipality of Tweed Recognition Policy recognizes and rewards employees that have
stayed with the organization at the following stages of their employment. The Municipality of
Tweed also recognizes and rewards Tweed Firefighters for 25 Years of Service.
► 15 Years of Service
► 20 Years of Service
► 25 Years of Service
► Retirement
Employees who have reached these milestones in continuous employment shall be compensated
in the form of a gift certificate from a Municipality of Tweed business, of their choosing, in the
following amounts:
15 Years of Service $ 50.00
20 Years of Service $ 100.00
25 Years of Service $ 200.00
Retirement $ 250.00
The initial long service awards will be presented to individual employees who have reached or
exceeded these milestone years as of the date of adoption of the Recognition Policy Addendum.
Thereafter, the long service awards will be presented to individual employees on the anniversary
date of their employment.
