HomeMy Public PortalAboutCommunity Use Supervisor_Job Description_2020-10-26 Position Title: Community Use Supervisor Reports to: Community Development Coordinator Department: Community Development & Recreation Location: Chester Area Middle School and Chester District School Hours: Variable evenings and weekends, subject to change Status: Part-Time Start Date: January 11, 2021 Salary Range: $12.55 - $18 hourly Updated: October 2020 SCOPE Under the supervision of the Community Development Coordinator, the Community Use Supervisor will ensure that community use of the school is safe, respectful and enjoyable for all. OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER LEGISLATION 1. The Municipality of the District of Chester is committed to workplace safety and all employees are expected to actively participate in the Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and Occupational Health and Safety Legislation as well as Regulations of the Province of Nova Scotia. 2. The Municipality of the District of Chester complies with the Employment Legislation of Nova Scotia and all employees are also expected to act in accordance with the appropriate Legislation. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Ability to work with limited supervision, high level of sound and independent judgement, reasoning and discretion; 3. Familiarity with the Municipality of Chester and local community organizations would be an asset; 4. Must have reached the age of majority; 5. Must provide or be willing to obtain a Criminal Record (with Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry check prior to commencing employment. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To manage the security of the school building including locking, unlocking doors and monitoring public access. 2. To ensure that all individuals who enter the facility sign-in their name and check-out when vacating the premises. 3. To communicate with individuals and groups using the school facilities in a pleasant and helpful manner at all times. 4. To ensure that the necessary equipment is available for community programs. This could involve setting up audiovisual equipment, flip charts, sports equipment, etc. 5. To support community use of the facilities with other duties as deemed necessary by the Community Development Coordinator (may include but not limited to helping coordinate and/or supervise programs, creating social and print media content for community outreach, etc.) 6. To ensure any spaces, equipment and materials are used responsibly and returned to their original state. 7. To call appropriate assistance in the event of an emergency (i.e. ambulance, police). 8. To ensure that groups and individuals using the building follow the guidelines for community use. 9. To report all serious offenders and/or vandalism immediately to the RCMP and to the Community Development Coordinator. 10. To ensure that the Community Use Supervisor is the last person to leave the building (with the exception of school staff such as teachers and custodians). 11. To perform a facility check at the beginning and end of every shift. 12. To complete a report at the end of every shift worked. 13. To ensure that the use of the school facility is safe, orderly and enjoyable for all. Community Use Supervisor - Position Description (continued) 3 SPECIAL CONDITIONS The number of anticipated work hours will vary depending on the demand for evening and weekend community use of the school. Given that the community use of the school through the Joint Use Agreement between the Municipality and the SSRCE is new for the community, we expect some transition time and flexibility as these hours are expected to increase gradually over the first year.
