TITLE: Council Remuneration Policy
POLICY STATEMENT:
Members of Council will be provided with fair and reasonable remuneration for
performing the duties of their office. This policy is intended to clarify the
remuneration and benefits available to a member of Council.
For the purposes of this policy, the term “Council” and “Council members” shall
include the Mayor and Water Councillors.
POLICY:
1. REMUNERATION
a. Effective January 1, 2022 the Mayor shall receive annual indemnity
of $30,755.14, paid on a monthly basis.
b. Effective January 1, 2022 each Councillor shall receive an annual
indemnity of $16,402.64, paid on a monthly basis.
c. Effective January 1, 2022 each Water Councillor shall receive an
annual indemnity of $6,150.43, paid on a monthly basis.
d. The remuneration of Council shall increase on January 1 of each year by
the amount of the British Columbia Consumer Price Index (BC CPI) for the
prior year. In years where the BC CPI is negative, the remuneration shall
remain the same as the prior year.
e. A stipend shall be paid to Council members appointed to an outside
committee that does not provide stipends or travel expenses as follows:
i. Full Day Meeting - $158.00 plus mileage and meals
ii. Half Day Meeting - $79.00 plus mileage and meals

f. A stipend shall be paid for Council members to include an Acting Mayor
Remuneration at $110.00 per month during Council’s three-month rotation.
INDEMNIFICATION AND INSURANCE
a. Each Council member shall receive travel accident insurance coverage of
$200,000 with the premiums paid for by the Town, while acting reasonably
and in good faith in performing the duties and functions of their positions
with the Town.
b. Council members may opt into the Town’s extended health and dental
plan; provided they pay 100% of the premiums which will be deducted
from remuneration.
2. REVIEW OF COUNCIL REMUNERATION
a. Council remuneration is to be reviewed during the last year of the term of
each Council.
b. Council may request a committee of public members to review council
remuneration and bring forward recommendations that would be effective
for the newly elected Council.
