Date: September 9, 2022 SCOPE Under the direction of the Director of Community Development and Recreation for the Municipality of the District of Chester, the Recreation Coordinator promotes the vision of the Chester Municipal Recreation & Parks Committee, which is founded on the concept of community development. S/he is responsible for development, coordination, and continuity of the community’s use of Forest Heights Community School (FHCS) and Aspotogan Consolidated Elementary School (ACES). The Coordinator works closely with the School Principals, School Advisory Councils and Community School teams towards the efficient and effective management of a diversified program of activities, services, projects and special events to meet the needs of the community. As designated, the Coordinator participates in the provision of services by the Recreation & Parks Department and is responsible to work with the Joint Use Committees, Council for the Municipality of the District of Chester, Chester Municipal Recreation & Parks Committee, and Director of Community Development and Recreation. MUNCIPALITY OF THE DISTRICT OF CHESTER POSITION DESCRIPTION OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER LEGISLATION 1. The Municipality of the District of Chester complies with the Employment Legislation of Nova Scotia and all employees are also expected to act in accordance to the appropriate Legislation as well. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelor of Recreation Management or equivalent. 2. Academic training/experience in community education. 3. Training/experience in organizing and implementing community development programs and special events. 4. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. 5. Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills. 6. Some computer skills necessary. 7. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. SUMMARY OF FUNCTION General Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates the provision of diverse recreational, educational and leisure services to the community through program planning, implementation and supervision of the community’s use of FHCS and ACES. 2. Supervises recreation programming for community sites. 3. Supervises Recreation & Parks Services Summer Staff. 4. Writing grant proposals and managing funds. 5. Manages part-time staff related to the Community’s use of FHCS and ACES. 6. Promotes the concept of life long learning and the community’s use of the Schools in this capacity. 7. Fosters the use of the Schools within the concept of community development. 8. Functions as a member of the Management Team of FHCS and ACES. 9. Acts as a liaison between the Schools and Recreation & Parks Services. 10. Acts as liaison between community users of the Schools and School faculty. Specific Responsibilities: 1. Designs, implements and evaluates programs, activities, courses, special events. 2. Designs and develops, with the Director of Community Development and Recreation, policies, and procedures for the community’s use of FHCS and ACES. 3. Establishes fee structures for rentals, programs, and services of FHCS and ACES with the Director of Community Development and Recreation and School Principals. 4. Manages the FHCS User Fee Account with the Director of Community Development and Recreation and School Principals. 5. Scheduling of FHCS and ACES. 6. Hiring/training of instructions. 7. Supervision of Program Staff. 8. Coordinates a schedule of community use of FHCS and ACES, within School guidelines. 9. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating of part time staff, summer staff instructors and volunteers according to established policies of the Municipality of the District of Chester, FHCS and ACES. 10. Keep files, records and statistics of the community’s use of the Schools. 11. Prepares monthly reports for the Municipality of Chester Recreation & Parks Committee, Municipal Council, and Director of Community Development and Recreation and other reports as required. 12. Cooperates with other Recreation Departments, other agencies and organizations in the use of the Schools. 13. Participates in the programs and services of the Recreation & Parks Services, as directed. 14. Represents the FHCS and ACES and acts as liaison with various Municipal and Provincial Government, community based organizations and professional peer groups. 15. Participates in School in-services as required. 16. Participates in the Recreation & Parks Services planning, programs, evaluation, and research. 17. Carries out, according to Chester Municipal and South Shore Regional Centre for Education policies, the collection of, and accounting for, fees and charges that may be imposed for program services. 18. Assists with the interpretation of FHCS and ACES’s programs to the community. 19. Supervises program registrations. 20. Manages the promotion and advertising of all activities and programs. 21.
