CURRENT SITUATION
Public Works staff provide summer maintenance on several properties throughout the Municipality. During the
June 1, 2023 Council meeting staff were requested to provide a list of these properties to Council for
information and potential discussion.
BACKGROUND
Correspondence was forwarded to Council from representatives of the Zoe Valle Memorial Library requesting
assistance from municipal staff to assist with the mowing of their property until their maintenance person was
able to resume their duties. During this discussion, Council requested staff to provide an update on which
properties received summer maintenance by Public Works staff.
DISCUSSION/UPDATES
The following properties receive summer maintenance via public works staff:

Chester Connection Trail NSDNRR Mainly brush cutting as needed.
Aspotogan Trail NSDNRR Mainly brush cutting as needed.
Chester Municipal Heritage Society NSDNRR Includes train station and grounds.
Administration/Annex Buildings MODC Entire properties.

Most properties are owned by the Municipality of the District of Chester or contain infrastructure that we own
and maintain such as lift stations, sidewalks, and fire hydrants. We maintain sizeable areas on properties owned
by the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables through an agreement with the same. One exception
in addition to the Zoe Valle Memorial Library is the Tancook Ferry Overflow Parking Lot. Although an official
agreement is not in place we would have first right of refusal should this property become surplus.
