MUNICIPALITY OF THE
DISTRICT OF CHESTER
REPORT
DATE: May 12, 2014
TO: Erin Beaudin, CAO
FROM: Jami Fay, Planning Technician /Civic Address Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Community Development
SUBJECT: New Road Change - WILLIES LANE, FOX POINT
BACKGROUND:
There is a driveway off of Highway 329 that gives access to two dwellings and a third one that is under
construction.
DISCUSSION:
This road needs a name for the NS Emergency 911 System. There are four property owners named
on the petition.
There are three property owners that have agreed on the three new road name choices as seen below
The fourth property owner is in favour of'Richardson Lane'. This name was suggested on the petition
letter because this road name had been posted and was sometimes referred to by this name in the
community.
The names chosen by the majority of the property owners are:
1st choice - WILLIES LANE
2nd choice - HUMMINGBIRD LANE
3rd choice - LOOKOUT ROAD
The road names that we have in our road list that are similar are:
Will Turner Road, Fraxville
Willow Lane, Western Shore
This new road services seven properties (votes). Six out of seven (6/7) voted in favour ofWillies
Lane. This is 86% in favour of this new road name.
I contacted the Hubbard's Fire Chief, the Municipal Councilor and the Public Works
Department Director for comments and approval for these road name choices:
Hubbard's Fire Chief, Clary Coolen - OK
Municipal Councilor, District 2, Floyd Shatford - OK
Public Works Department Director, Matthew Davidson - OK
IMPLICATIONS:
If Municipal Council approves a new road name this new road name change will be forwarded to all
the emergency departments, the Tax Office and the Registry of Deeds Office.
1 Policy:
Policy P -44, Civic Numbering Policies, New Road Names and Road Name Changes.
2 Financial /Budgetary:
The new road sign (with accessory materials) will be purchased and posted by the Public Works
Department. Two new blue and white civic plates will be purchased and handed out to the two of
the existing dwellings free of charge because the municipality initiated this petition.
