Minutes of Meeting of Economic Development and Long Range Planning

Mayor Thorne, Deputy Mayor Wilson, Councillor Nelson,
Councillor Brenan, Councillor Milner, Councillor Maguire,
Councillor Bobbitt, Councillor MacLeod

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Moved by: Councillor Milner
Seconded by: Councillor MacLeod
THAT the agenda be approved as circulated.
Motion Carried
2. DISCLOSURE OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST
No members present declared a conflict of interest on any of the items on the
agenda at this time.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MEETING #05-23
Moved by: Councillor MacLeod
Seconded by: Councillor Brenan
THAT the minutes of meeting 05-23 be approved as circulated.

5. BUSINESS ARISING OUT OF MINUTES
5.a ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STEERING COMMITTEE.
CAO Hatcher requests that item 5.a on the agenda be removed for future
meetings as this mandate is now being transferred to the King's Regional
Service Commission as part of the Local Governance Reform.
Moved by: Councillor Milner
THAT the item "Economic Development Steering Committee" be removed
from future Committee agendas.
Motion Carried
5.b FUNDY TRAIL PARKWAY.
Mayor Thorne indicates that he will reach out to the Fundy Trail Parkway
Manager to see if she would be interested in providing the Committee with
an update on the Fundy Trail Parkway at a future Committee meeting.
5.c SUSSEX POPULATION GROWTH STRATEGY:
CAO Hatcher updates the Committee on the current status of Coventry
Walk and its ongoing developments.
CAO Hatcher advises of a pending permit on the lot behind Shoppers
Drug Mart set to begin construction of an apartment building.
CAO Hatcher advises the Town will likely see a 10x normal development
construction for 2023 and the future looks promising.
Lengthy discussion on the need to begin the evaluation of trench lines and
servicing needs for future needs. Administration is preparing the costs of
the assessment for 2024 analysis and reporting.
5.c.1 COVENTRY WALK SUBDIVISION
CAO Hatcher advises Committee of the current status of Coventry Walk.
The ongoing developments in the Coventry Walk Subdivision Include:
• 8 Single Family units under various stages of construction.
• 2 Foundations ready
• 1 Footing course in place
• 2 Other permits under assessment

5.d ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS
CAO Hatcher advises Committee that Administration has been requested
to provide estimates to complete the installation process of 2 additional
level 2 chargers at Jubilee Hall in 2023.
5.e FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE
Nothing further to report at this time. Administration is currently awaiting
the closure on intake applications on this Federal program.
6. NEW BUSINESS
6.a 2023 ATLANTIC BUSINESS MAGAZINE - MEDIA KIT
The 2023 Atlantic Business Magazine Media Kit was received and filed by
the Committee.
6.b KINGS REGIONAL SERVICE COMMISSION
A brief discussion took place on the King's Regional Service Commission
June 7, 2023 Meeting The agenda and reports were filed by staff for the
Board to review.
Deputy Mayor Wilson and Mayor Thorne highlighted the Board issues
discussed at the June 7, 2023 King's Regional Service Commission Board
Meeting.
There was a brief discussion on the Regional Recreation Facilities that
were discussed at the Board meeting.

Deputy Mayor Wilson highlights the work being undertaken by the
Multicultural Association of Sussex and provides to the Committee
highlights of the May 2023 newsletter. The newsletter was received and
filed by the Committee.
