BY-LAW TO APPROVE THE BUDGET OF THE SUSSEX DOWNTOWN
BUSINESS ASSOCIATION AND TO ESTABLISH A SPECIAL BUSINESS
IMPROVEMENT AREA LEVY IN THE TOWN OF SUSSEX
BY-LAW # 154
WHEREAS the Business Improvement Areas Act, which came into force on the 1st
day of August, A.D., 1985, provides that a municipality may, by by-law, impose a
special business improvement levy on non-residential properties within the area
designed as a business improvement area;
WHEREAS the Town Council of the Town of Sussex deems the imposition of such
a special business development improvement levy on non-residential property to
be in the public interest;
WHEREAS all pre-conditions to the passing of the by-law have been met;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED by the Town Council of the Town of Sussex as
follows:
1. A special business improvement levy at the rate of nineteen point twenty-
one cents per one hundred dollars (19.21¢/$100.00) of assessment for the
year beginning January 1, 1987, and ending on December 31st, 1987, is
hereby imposed on all non-residential properties within the area described
in the by-law entitled “A By-Law to Designate And Establish A Business
Improvement Area Within The Boundaries Of The Town Of Sussex”.
2. Proceeds from the levy in the amount of $9,477.69 may, upon receipt, be
remitted by the Town of Sussex to the Sussex Downtown Business
Association for the purposes contained in the budget approved by the Town
of Sussex on November 21st, 1986.
