6. Fire Report

THAT the Fire Report for the month of August 2023 be received as circulated.

The report indicated that during the month the Fire Department responded to 29
calls with 17 calls originating within the boundaries of Sussex and 12 calls
outside of the boundaries of Sussex.
7 Building Inspector's Report

THAT the Building Inspector's Report for the month of August 2023 be received
as circulated.

The report indicated that during the month, the Building Inspector issued 5
permits for New Construction totaling $1,479,385 and 20 permits for
Renovations, Repairs and Alterations totaling $748,500.
8. Development Officer's Report

THAT the Development Officer's Report for the month of August, 2023 be

The report indicated that during the month, there were 2 Subdivision Plans, 1
Amending Subdivision Plan, 1 Tentative Subdivision Plan and 1 Surveyor's Real
Property Report submitted for approval.

The Planning Advisory Committee did not meet in September.

THAT Council deem the beagle mastiff mix dog "Harley" owned by
Cynthia and Matthew Devolders currently residing at 82 Park Street as
Fierce and Dangerous in accordance with the Animal Control By-law
#250-11, Section IX and requirements as follows:
(a) such animal is licensed with the Town as a fierce or dangerous
animal in accordance with Section III;
(b) such animal is spayed or neutered;

(c) such animal comply with the owners' responsibilities as outlined in
this by-law;
(d) such animal shall be muzzled at all times when the animal is off the
owner's property;
(e) at all times when off the owner's property, the animal shall be on a
leash not longer than one (1) metre and under the control of a
responsible person over the age of eighteen (18);
(f) when such animal is on the property of the owner, it shall be either
securely confined indoors or in a securely enclosed and locked pen or
structure, suitable to prevent the escape of the fierce or dangerous
animal and capable of preventing the entry of any person not in control
of the animal. Such pen or structure must have minimum dimensions
of two (2) metres by four (4) metres and must have secure sides and a
secure top. If it has no bottom secured to the sides, the sides must be
embedded into the ground no less than thirty (30) centimeters deep.
The enclosure must also provide protection from the elements for the
animal. The pen or structure shall not be within one (1) metre of the
property line or within three (3) metres of a neighboring dwelling unit.
Such animal may not be chained as a means of confinement; and (g) a
sign, as depicted below with minimum dimensions of two hundred fifty
by hundred (250 X 100) millimeters, is displayed at each entrance to
the property and building in which the animal is kept warning in writing,
as well as with a symbol, that there is a dangerous animal on the
property. This sign shall be visible and legible from the nearest road or
thoroughfare.

the Fire Chief be adjusted to four (4) days a week in accordance with the

Law in Amendment of A By -Law To Approve The Budget of the Sussex
Downtown Business Association and to Establish a Special Business
Improvement Area Levy in the town of Sussex during their regular Council
meeting to be held in the Council Chambers at Town Hall on October 23,
2023 beginning at 7:00pm.

13. Open Discussion
Councillor Milner highlighted the valuable contribution of volunteers in our
community, particularly in organizing major events like the Balloon Fiesta and
Flea Market. Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of such events, not
only help in organizing and coordinating these events but also creating a sense
of community spirit and unity. It's important to recognize and appreciate the hard
work and dedication of these volunteers, as they are an integral part of making
these events a success.
Councillor Brenan congratulated the Sussex Royals U-11 AAA Baseball team for
winning the Atlantic Championship Games in Corner Brook Newfoundland.
14. Date of Next Scheduled Regular Meeting October 23, 2023
Deputy Mayor Wilson noted that the next regularly scheduled meeting of the
Council will be held on October 23, 2023.
