HomeMy Public PortalAbout2016-08-22_MR_Director of Finance_ver1MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 22, 2016 MUNICIPALITY OF CHESTER SELECTS DIRECTOR OF FINANCE MUNICIPALITY – Since announcing the fall retirement of their current and long -time Director of Finance, Steve Graham, the Municipality of Chester has been searching for the perfect candidate to fill the key position. Senior executive staff chose five candidates for interview out of more than 50 applicants. Nancy Dove was selected as the successful candidate and accepted the Municipality’s offer to be their newest employee. “Although we will miss Steve tremendously and wish him well in his retirement, w e couldn’t be more pleased in welcoming Nancy,” says Tammy Wilson, CAO for the Municipality. “Her professionalism and motivation are a great fit for our organization, and her expertise will provide the Municipality with the edge it needs to continue being at the forefront in fiscal sustainability.” The Director of Finance holds one of the most critical jobs in the Municipality – being accountable for fiscal operations. They advise Council and ensure staff make prudent financial decisions, as well as prepare the Budget. With Nancy’s background as a Chartered Professional Accountant, holding a Bache lor of Business Administration, and her extensive 24-year work history in both the public and private sectors, she is undoubtedly the right individual for this position. Her experience in leadership and executive roles include Manager of Financial Service s for the Department of Education, Manager of Finance in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, and Controller for Premium Seafood Limited. During her career, she has also worked closely with municipal organizations, such as the Association of Municipal Administrators, Municipal Finance Corporation, and Property Valuation Services Corporation. Personally, Nancy is a proud mother of three children, focusing much of her spare time on family life. She spends much of that time enjoying the outdoors, including running, family trail walks, and being on the water. “I am looking forward to my new job with MODC and being involved with the surrounding communities,” says Nancy. She continues, “My plan is to work closely with all staff and departments so that MODC is proactive both internally and externally when dealing with current and future initiatives; to work collaboratively with other municipalities and stakeholders; and to share knowledge and resources.” Her focus will be on collaborative long-term growth and financial sustainability, and applying her experience to collectively create efficiencies and streamline tasks, leading to effective processes and cost savings. Cash flow management, current business processes, internal controls, debt reduction, and key performance indicators will also be on her radar. Nancy will begin work with the Municipality on September 6.
