HomeMy Public PortalAbout2017-03-24_MR_DoF and WWTO PositionsMEDIA RELEASE MUNICIPALITY OF CHESTER –The Municipality of the District of Chester has filled two vacant positions: the Director of Finance position, which was vacated unexpectedly in February ; and the Wastewater Systems Operator, which has remained unfilled since the summer of 2016. Malcolm Pitman, from Bridgewater,will join the Municipality as the Director of Finance in early April. He brings a decade of experience in the same position for the Town of Bridgewater, and spent more than ten years combined with the South Shore District Health Authority and Nova Scotia Health Authority. He possesses a tremendous amount of skill and is aptly suited and qualified for this post, and his hire comes at a critical time as the Municipality moves through the budget process. “Hiring Malcolm was an easy decision,” says Tammy Wilson, CAO for the Municipality of Chester. “His immense knowledge in the field coupled with his personable nature made him an excellent candidate and will subsequently ensure his success in the role of Director of Finance.” Malcolm,his wife,and two daughters have lived in Bridgewater for the past 21 years. He enjoys running and takes part in the occasional road race. “Living and working on the South Shore has always been a special experience,and I am pleased to continue that experience with the Municipality of Chester and look forward to engaging with other team members to build on past successes,” says Malcolm of being awarded the position. Garth MacLean, Wastewater Systems Operator for the Municipality, started March 22 after a lengthy career in the construction industry. His skills are many and include site development, on- site wastewater systems and heavy equipment operation. Matthew Davidson, Director of Public Works and Engineering, is pleased with the Municipality’s choice and feels that Garth has a lot to offer. “Garth is a welcomed and much needed addition to our Department.We are looking forward to a productive and long working relationship.” Garth lives with his two children in Hubbards, where he has been a lifelong resident. He enjoys outdoor living and many recreational activities.
