PROVINCE AND MUNICIPALITY OF CHESTER TEAM UP FOR AGE -FRIENDLY
COMMUNITIES PROJECT
MUNICIPALITY OF CHESTER –The Nova Scotia Department of Seniors announced
today that they were contributing $5,000 toward an “Age-Friendly Communities”
project within the Municipality of the District of Chester. The Municipal ity will match
the contribution through monetary and in -kind contributions.
“Age-Friendly Communities”is a program that promotes supportive environments
where seniors can lead healthy, active and engaged lives.The Municipality will
embark on this project by identifying the barriers within the community and then
proposing recommendations to remove or alleviate them.
“The Municipality of the District of Chester’s decision to engage in this project is
based on our commitment to foster a safe and welcoming community for everyone,”
says Allen Webber, Warden for the Municipality of Chester.“Encouraging and
supporting the development of an ‘Age-Friendly Community’is beneficial to our
district and an investment in our future.”
Chad Haughn, Director of Recreation and Parks, says, "There is growing interest in
Age-Friendly Communities across the provinc e and we are pleased to be part of the
movement from the outset." He already has some ideas and encourages the public to
get involved. “We want the community to be a substantial part of this project.” The
first step is to form an Age-Friendly Advisory Team with members of the public,
municipal staff and representation from elected officials.
