HomeMy Public PortalAbout2023-10-17 ED LRP Committee Meeting MinutesSussex Minutes of Meeting of Economic Development and Long Range Planning Committee 10-23 October 17, 2023 7:00 p.m. Present: Staff Present: Staff Absent: Mayor Thorne, Deputy Mayor Wilson, Councillor Nelson - Chairperson, Councillor Brenan - Vice Chairperson, Councillor Milner, Councillor Maguire, Councillor Bobbitt, Councillor MacLeod Scott Hatcher, Chief Administrative Officer, Heather Moffett Tara Olesen, Town Clerk APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by: Deputy Mayor Wilson Seconded by: Councillor Milner THAT the agenda be approved as circulated. Motion Carried 2. DISCLOSURE OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST No members present declared a conflict of interest on any of the items on the agenda at this time. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MEETING #09-23 Moved by: Councillor Maguire Seconded by: Deputy Mayor Wilson THAT the minutes of meeting 09-23 be approved as circulated. Motion Carried 4. DELEGATIONS There were no delegations. 2 5. BUSINESS ARISING OUT OF MINUTES 5.a SUSSEX POPULATION GROWTH STRATEGY: 5.a.1 COVENTRY WALK SUBDIVISION CAO Hatcher advises on the progress of Phase 3 of the Coventry Walk subdivision. The following is underway: - Paving and placement of the asphalt concrete has been completed. - 4 new foundations have been placed with 19 of the 24 houses in various stages of construction and occupation. - 4 units are now owner occupied. - 7 driveways were paved this week. - 7 lots are now fully landscaped. - All entry landscape on existing Bryant Drive lots is now restored. - It is believed all but 4 Tots will be completed in 2023 with the remaining lots completed in the spring of 2024. 5.b ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS CAO Hatcher indicates the town is in the process of securing the charging stations equipment to begin the installation in early 2024. 5.c FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE There is nothing new to report at this time. 6. NEW BUSINESS 6.a KINGS REGIONAL SERVICE COMMISSION 6.a.1 REGULAR BOARD MEETING AGENDA - SEPTEMBER 27, 2023 Deputy Mayor Wilson reviews with Committee the KRSC Meeting Agenda of the Commission's September 27, 2023 meeting. Items covered were as follows: - 2024 Budget sent for stakeholder consultation. - Formation of standing Committees, - The board heard the MAS presentation and request for funding. A brief discussion followed. The agenda was received and filed by the Committee. 3 6.b MULTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF SUSSEX 6.b.1 MAS SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER The MAS newsletter was reviewed by the Committee. The association is active, and their newsletter is professionally prepared and published to communicate their events and programming facilitated by MAS. Deputy Mayor Wilson highlighted the upcoming volunteer expo to be held on October 18, 2023. He also noted there were 52 newcomers in the greater region/area. 6.b.2 MAS AGM - OCTOBER 25, 2023 CAO Hatcher noted the MAS Annual General Meeting is scheduled for October 25, 2023 and any member of Sussex Council is welcome to attend. 6.b.3 MAS MEETING MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 20, 2023 Deputy Mayor Wilson reviews the MAS meeting minutes of their September 20, 2023 meeting. A brief discussion followed. Meeting minutes received and filed by the Committee. 7. SCHEDULE FOR NEXT MEETING - NOVEMBER 21, 2023 The next regular scheduled meeting is November 21, 2023 at 7:00pm. 8. ADJOURNMENT Moved by: Councillor Milner Seconded by: Councillor MacLeod THAT this regular meeting of the Economic Development and Long Range Planning Committee be adjourned. Motion Carried 9.
