HomeMy Public PortalAbout2017-08-10_MR_By-election MEDIA RELEASE MUNICIPALITY OF CHESTER – On October 14, residents in District 1 of the Municipality of Chester will elect a new representative to sit at the Council table. The decision for the by-election comes after former Councillor Andre Veinotte tendered his resignation on July 27. Mr. Veinotte served as councillor for District 1 after winning the Municipal Election in his district in October 2012. He was sworn in by acclamation after the 2016 Election. At their meeting on August 10, Council approved the October by-election with two polling stations open to voters on Election Day, located at the District No. 1 Community Centre and the East Chester Recreation Association Hall. Two days are set aside for advanced polls for those who can’t vote on Election Day: October 5 and October 10. Tentative locations for advanced polls are the same as regular polling stations, but only one will be open each day. Unlike the Municipal Election in 2016, online and telephone voting are not available. Residents can expect to receive voting information in their mailboxes in the next couple of weeks. Potential candidates have until 5:00 p.m. on September 19 to file their nomination papers with the Municipal Clerk. In the meantime, citizens residing in District 1 can contact any of the other six members of Council with their concerns or questions during the brief vacancy. Contact information can be found at www.chester.ca or by calling the Municipal Office at 902- 275-3554.
