MEDIA RELEASE
MUNICIPALITY OF CHESTER – Jonathan Meakin is the newest staff member at the
Municipality of Chester, recently accepting the position of Strategic Initiatives
Coordinator. His first day with MODC was Monday, September 25.
Jonathan will primarily work with Staff and Councillors to complete an ambitious list
of strategic priorities that is set by Council each year. These are projects that will
propel MODC towards end goals, such as sustainable revenue independent of property
taxes and a resilient economy.
“The Municipality has committed to an aggressive list of strategic initiatives again this
year,” says Warden Allen Webber. “This new position is an investment that will facilitate
the completion of those action items more efficiently and bring us closer to our goals.
We are confident that Jonathan’s approach will guarantee success.”
Some of the projects that Jonathan will coordinate and actively participate in include
developing a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) By-law, reviewing municipal
policies, and assisting with economic development efforts. Others are ongoing (sharing
services with other municipalities) and multi-year (MODC’s 10-year capital plan). As the
Strategic Initiatives Coordinator, Jonathan will keep the many projects and plans
consistent with timelines, organized, and on track.
In addition to assisting in the completion of strategic initiatives, Jonathan will sourc e
grant monies for operational and capital projects, which will alleviate some of the cost
burden to the Municipality.
He joins the Municipality with over fifteen years of experience developing and
managing diverse funding, planning, program, and process needs for a broad range of
organizations. "In my experience, strategic initiatives are achieved through active
engagement of all stakeholders, be they decision-makers, program deliverers, service
users, businesses, community groups, and more," says Jonathan. "I am thrilled to help
coordinate the Municipality's ongoing plans to support sustainability and growth in
our communities."
