STATEMENT
CURRENT SITUATION
• Fire broke out early this morning at Kaizer Meadow Landfill.
• Staff contacted 911 at 6:45 a.m. upon arrival.
• No reported injuries.
• Six fire departments, Municipal Staff, and Public Safety Nova Scotia are currently on scene.
• Cause of the fire is unknown.
• Smoke is diminishing as the fire is being managed with water and is under control.
• The fire is not spreading.
POSITION
• The Landfill is closed to the public, including media, until the safety of the public ensured.
• Waste collection is proceeding as scheduled.
• An investigation into the cause will be conducted after the scene is secured and the fire is
extinguished.
• Emergency Measures and the Department of Natural Resources have been notified.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATI ON
• The six fire departments on scene are
o Chester
o Chester Basin
o New Ross
o Hantsport
o Lunenburg
o Windsor
• Brooklyn Fire Department aerial apparatus has been called for support.
