TOWN OF OLIVER
BYLAW No. 861
A bylaw to provide for an annual indemnity to be paid to members of Council pursuant to
Section 267 of the Municipal Act.
The municipal council of the Corporation of the Town of Oliver, in open meeting assembled,
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That an annual indemnity shall be paid to the Mayor (or Acting Mayor during period of
vacancy of office of the Mayor) as follows:
1997 - $20,585.62
1998 and subsequent years -
The previous year’s annual indemnity, increased by the consumer price
index increase for British Columbia for the immediately preceding year.
2. That an annual indemnity shall be paid to all Councillors, with the exception of Water
Councillors, as follows:
1997 - $10,978.93
1998 and subsequent years -
The previous year’s annual indemnity, increased by the consumer price
index increase for British Columbia for the immediately preceding year.
3. That an annual indemnity shall be paid to Water Councillors for their duties pertaining to
water matters, as follows:
1997 - $4,116.72
1998 and subsequent years -
The previous year’s annual indemnity, increased by the consumer price
index increase for British Columbia for the immediately preceding year.
4. That a stipend shall be paid for the Mayor, Councillors and Water Councillors appointed
and any other outside committee that does not provide stipends, mileage or meals as
follows:
Full Day Meeting - $158 plus mileage and meal allowance
Half Day Meeting - $79 plus mileage and meal allowance”
5. That a stipend shall be paid for Councillors to include an Acting Mayor Remuneration at
$110.00 per month during Council’s three-month rotation.
6. Each of the indemnities shall be paid in monthly instalments, not in advance.

7. One-third of each indemnity shall be paid as an allowance for expenses incidental to the
discharge of the duties of office.
8. Oliver Indemnity Bylaw No. 820, 1996 is hereby repealed.
9. This bylaw may be cited for all purposes as ‘Oliver Council Remuneration Bylaw No.
861, 1997’.”
