TITLE: Recognition and Gift Policy (Employees and Council Members)
PURPOSE
The Town of Oliver values and appreciates the dedicated service by its
employees and Council for their contribution to the community.
POLICY OBJECTIVE:
This objective of this policy is to provide a consistent protocol in recognizing the
valuable contributions and achievements of:
1. Employees during their tenure
2. Employees at the conclusion of their tenure
3. Council at the end of their term
POLICY STATEMENT:
Long-Service Recognition:
1. The Town will formally recognize specific “milestones” of employment
services that are characterized by an on-going commitment between the
Town and employee.
2. The Deputy Finance Manager, or designate, will coordinate the
administration of the recognition of employment service program, including
assessment of employee eligibility and awards.

3.Employment service is formally recognized in five-year increments (the
fifth, tenth, fifteenth, twentieth, twenty-fifth, thirtieth years of service, and
applicable five years thereafter).
a.Plaques will be issued after five years of service, with a new
“shield” stating the number of years will be added each five-years
thereafter.
b.Certificates will also be issued after five years of service and each
five-years thereafter.
c.A congratulatory letter from the Mayor will be given to the employee
on the fifth anniversary of service and each five-years thereafter.
d.Plaques and certificates will be issued at an annual gathering of
Council and Town employees or at any other time Council deems
appropriate.
4.Eligibility is calculated annually to employee’s anniversary date.
5.Service will not be prorated and all service will be credited equally for time
worked. For example, a full year of service will be credited as one year for
both part-time and full-time staff members.
6.Prior service will be considered provided there has not been a break of
greater than one year.
Retirement – Resignation Gifts:
1.The Town will formally recognize outgoing employees and Council
members at the conclusion of their employment or term.
2. Employees and Council members must be in good standing who leave
office for any reason, but shall not apply in the event of termination,
suspension or resignation as a result of scandal, breach of office or other
similar non-confidence situation.
3.The maximum gift value shall be calculated on the basis of $50.00 for
each year of service subject to a minimum of $50.00 and a maximum of
$500.00.
