CURRENT SITUATION
Municipal Elections and the CSAP School Board Elections occur every four years.The 2020 Municipal
Elections & CSAP elections will be on October 17,2020.Section 4(1) of the Municipal Elections Act states:
“Council shall appoint a returning officer, who may be the clerk, another municipal
employee or another person who is not a municipal employee, to conduct all regular and
special elections required under this Act”
The Act requires that Council appoint a returning officer for a regular election on or before the fifteenth
day of March of the regular election year.
APPOINTMENT OF RETUR NING OFFICER (S)
Samuel Lamey, the Municipal Solicitor, was the last person to be appointed as Returning Officer.He has
carried out the duties associated with municipal elections for numerous previous elections.
It is recommended that Council appoint Samuel Lamey as the Returning Officer for the 2020 Municipal
Elections.
APPOINTMENT OF ASSIS TANT RETURNING OFFIC ER(S)
Pamela Myra, the Municipal Clerk, has been the Assistant Returning officer since assuming the position of
Municipal Clerk.
It is recommended that Council appoint the Municipal Clerk as Assistant Returning Officer.
RECOMMENDATION
To appoint Samuel Lamey as Returning officer and to appoint Pamela Myra,Municipal Clerk as assistant
Returning Officer.
OPTIONS
1.To appoint Samuel Lamey as Returning officer and to appoint Pamela Myra as assistant Returning
Officer.
2.To provide direction to staff on other appointments.
